Weekly Update ~ Dec. 14th - 18th

It is hard to believe that we are already into the last week of school before the Christmas holidays.  Where has the time gone?  I know for the students this time of year can never come fast enough.

On behalf of the staff at New Humble I would like to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

You Know Dasher & Dancer & Comet & Cupid...

The classes have been busy decorating their classroom doors with Santa's reindeer.  Can you guess which reindeer each door represents?

Christmas Concert ~

On Thursday, December 17th the students of New Humble Centre will be performing "Survival Santa".  The performances will be at 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Doors will open at 6:30 for the evening performance.  All students need to be in their classes by 6:45.  There will be refreshments served in the old library after the evening performance.  If you know that your child(ren) will not be at the evening performance please let the school know. Hopefully you will be able to make it out to one of the performances. Just a reminder that parking will be available in the north field.

PJ, Potluck Day & Bingo Day ~

The last day before the Christmas holidays is one that the staff and students look forward to each year.  After a late night at the concert, we all get to come to school in our pajamas.  We enjoy having lunch together, so thank you to everyone for your contribution to the potluck lunch.  It is greatly appreciated!  After a wonderful lunch, we all enjoy playing Bingo together.  It is always heartwarming to watch the older students
take the younger ones under their wings and help them with their Bingo cards.

The New Year ~

The first day back to school after the holidays is Monday, January 4th.  We will jump right back into the swing of things with basketball and a School Council/Parent Association meeting.  Both the basketball and the parents meetings are scheduled for Tuesday, January 5th.  Please check the calendar for the specifics.

Weekly Update - December 7 - 11

Only Two More Weeks Until Christmas Vacation ~

Preparations for all things Christmas are well under way at New Humble Centre.  Students have been busy practicing songs and lines for our Christmas concert.  Classes have been working on decorations for the 'Decorated Door Contest'  Each class, as well as the custodian, librarian, and office, chose a name of a reindeer and then have to decorate their door accordingly.  Doors need to be finished by Dec. 14th.  You will have to check out the creativity of everyone and see if you can guess which reindeer their door represents.

Student of The Month ~

In November our character trait that we were focusing on was Perseverance. Congratulations to the following students who were chosen as Student of the Month winners for demonstrating perseverance:

Jenna Koch - ECS
Brett Besler - Gr. 1
Austin Frenzel-Neufeld - Gr. 2
Colby Besler - Gr. 3
Colby Andersen - Gr. 4
Garrett Armstrong - Gr. 4
Kole Rutherford - Gr. 5
Evan Frenzel-Neufeld - Gr. 6

In December we will be focusing on Self-Discipline.  This trait goes nicely with Habit 2 - Begin with the End in Mind and Habit 3 - Put First Things First.

Christmas Special on Chromebooks ~

If you have any any questions about this, please give me a call.

Card Making Club ~

Thanks to all of the students that came out to Card Making Club.  The Christmas cards that they created will be used to send to the other schools in the District.

Five Days of Christmas ~

Thank you to everyone for the items you donated for the Five Days of Christmas. The tables and boxes were overflowing from your generosity.

Annie, the Musical ~

On Thursday, Dec. 10th the whole school will be heading into the MacLab Centre in Leduc to watch the musical, Annie.  Teachers will be contacting the parents that are going along as supervisors.  Thanks to everyone who volunteered.

Gr. 3-6 Skiing ~

This first ski trip of the season will be on Friday, December 11.  Hopefully Rabbit Hill has been able to make enough snow.  Please make sure that your child dresses in layers so that if the weather remains warm they can remove wet clothes or shed layers as the day warms up.

Christmas Potluck Lunch ~

Keeping with a long time tradition that was established in 1981, we will be holding our Christmas Potluck Lunch on Friday, Dec. 18th followed by Bingo and classroom activities.  Mrs. Austin will be sending home a more detailed note next week.  Thanks again for your contribution to the lunch.  The students thoroughly enjoy it!
